RFID chip will give LTO your location, money

The Land Transportation Office-Stradcom conglomerate wants us to pay P350 for a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip that will “enhance the agency’s services from registration process to traffic management and even prevention of carnapping.”

There are privacy issues involved, and militant groups are already crying Big Brother. After all, the LTO (and by extension all other government agencies) will be able to track individual cars in real time.

The RFID chips are a waste of money , though, especially in Manila. Thanks to suddenly-invisible Metro Manila Development Authority chairman Bayani Fernando, you’ll always know where you’ll be:

"What's that, RFID? I'm stuck in traffic? Thanks!"
