I'll give Gordon kudos for being Dick if he doesn't take back that statement. The statement simply works in many levels if you try to understand it.

Yeah, he does. But he can't, won't tone it down. Which in itself is pretty refreshing.

@BenK: Points taken. But using Lapid as an example sort of lowers the bar even more, doesn’t it?
I mean, he may have held positions in the executive and the legislative, but that’s pretty much it. Sort of like coming in to work for attendance’s sake.
He’s never really made a stand on anything. Which, at least, Aquino has.
He spent hours wrangling with Joker Arroyo over gerrymandering congressional districts, say. Which, I guess, isn’t really an achievement since Sen. Arroyo is a pretty cranky old guy who tends to be contrarian by general principle, but still…

Right. Probably not a good example, but I see what he was getting at. That's one of the problems with Dick -- I like the guy, but he does have a habit of saying things that come out sounding wrong.

The other (however unlikely) possibility is that, for once, he was trying for a little subtlety and just said it to bag on Ignoy. Which, if that's the case, makes it a pretty awesome comment.

I think the point Big Dick may have been making is that the bar of standards that says Ignoy can even be a candidate is so low that even a doofus like Lapid could step over it. Actually, taken at face value, Dick's comment is entirely accurate. Lapid was a governor, and even though he spends most of his time in the Senate impersonating a cardboard cut-out, if you compare his legislative record to Ignoy's, he comes across like one hard-working son of a B. Not that I'm suggesting he'd be anywhere near being a worthy candidate for President -- but sure, Lapid does in fact make the list of "people more qualified than Ignoy" in literal terms, and makes it comfortably.
